the Art of cooking marijuana or praparing a recipe with marijuana (cannabis) is not always easy one of the the first things to learn is how to cook the marijuana up and turn it into butter so that you can the select a recipe to put the butter in. The first time you make marijuana butter and then try to make a cake for example may well taste like shit( excuse my french) but a few tips on the subject may well make you weed brownies or cookies taste much better. here is a simple recipe on how to cook marijuana (cannabis) into butter. it is also possible to  cook the weed straight into a cake for example this method is much less efficient though. here is a simple start,  i will try too add at least one new  marijuana recipe  a week so check back.

How to prepare marijuana so that it can be consumed
Most recipes call for the making of a certain quantity of "Marijuana Butter", which is then used as butter would normally be used in a cooking situation. THC is not a water-soluble compound, so butter would naturally be a good carrier substance for ingestion. Just substitute butter with "bud butter" next time you bake.

Making marijuana Butter
Melt one pound of butter in a pan. Mix 60-70 (or more grams of thoroughly sifted
pot in it. Let it boil carefully a couple of minutes until the butter has
gotten a green color from the grass. Then squeeze the butter through a fine
strainer. While you use the strain, keep the leaves away in a corner of the
pan by using a spoon. Squeeze hard to get out as much of the butter as possible. Cooking time varies from 10-15 mins to 8 hours at a low simmer. Experiment yourself!

Bud Brownies
2 Eggs
3/4 c Sugar
1 ts Vanilla
1/2 c of marijuana butter or margarine; melted
3/4 c Chocolate; ground
2/3 c Unsifted flour
1/4 ts Baking powder
1/4 ts Salt
1/2 c Walnuts; chopped

Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Using a spoon, stir eggs with sugar and vanilla; add butter. Sift Ground Chocolate with flour, baking powder and salt. Stir into egg mixture; add nuts. Spread into greased 8 or 9" square pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 20-30 minutes. For extra chewy brownies, use 8" pan and less baking time. For cake like brownies use 9" pan and longer baking. Cut into squares. Eat in moderation!

Starting MaterialsExtract IntoResulting Doses
1 ounce of leaves
3.5 grams bud
1 quart (4 cups) Milk
1/2 cup Butter
10-30 depending on desired potency

Marijuana Milk (AKA bhang) Recipie:
Milk:4 cups (1 quart)
Leaf Matter:As many leaves as you can fit in 4 cups of milk.

Carefully boil milk and leaves for about an hour. Potency will vary depending on the amount and quality of leaves used. Typical dose is 1/4 cup milk mixed with chocolate milk. This method seems to work better than the butter and the high comes on MUCH faster.

Depending on your experience level a good first dose of milk is 1/4 cup but it can range from 1 tablespoon to 2/3 cup.

Milk Ideas: Pudding(one of my favorites), Shakes, Pancackes, etc.

Butter Recipie:
Butter:2 sticks unsalted
Leaf Matter:1 Pot=approx. 3 ounces (use less if using bud)

Bring 2-3 cups water and butter to boil. Add as many leaves as you can fit in your pan and cover with the butter/water mixture. Continue boiling for about 1 hour. Mash and stir frequently to make sure all THC is extracted from the leaves into the butter. After cooking strain butter from leaf using cheese cloth. Boil a cup of water and use it to rinse out every last drop of butter from the leaves. Be sure to squeeze the leaves well to get all the butter out. Put liquid in fridge (or freezer) to cool. When the butter has solidified pour off water. Butter will keep in fridge or freezer, but keeps best in cooked food!

Green Dragon - Thanks to Van for submitting this method of preparing THC in alcohol.
For the same reason that rubbing alcohol works so well to clean your glassware, any very strong alcohol will do to dissolve THC. My favorite used to be Smirnoff Black, but just recently having tried Grey Goose, that might change.

You'll need:
  • A microwave safe bowl or widemouthed jar large enough to hold the volume of alcohol
  • Saran wrap
  • A large rubberband
  • An ounce or two (schwag/leaf)
  • An oversize tea-ball and a funnel are also nice, but can be done without.
Pour the alcohol into the container and cover top with saran wrap. Secure with the rubber band and heat for 2-3 minutes (use your judgement on this, boiling alcohol is BAD). Add the pot at this point, preferrably in the tea ball, recover with the saran wrap and set on counter - it'll smell strongly, so heads up. Stir occassionally until cool; the longer you can leave it, the better. After that, remove the pot, and if desired pour through a coffee filter to remove the crap. I like pouring it back into the origional bottle with a funnel, it looks awesome. When done, it should be the color of pee - but never fret, this is why they invented green food coloring. Add a few drops and impress all your friends. The leftover buds, while tempting to look at, are completely bunk - not only will it no longer get you even slightly buzzed, it'll taste absolutely horrible. Toss it. Put the beautiful stuff in your freezer and you have a special treat that'll hit nice and slow, but with *plenty* of strength.

Webmaster's note: from our experience squeeze the leaves multiple times during cool down and at the end for maximum potency.

Pot brownies are one of the most pleasant, tastefull and healthy way to use your pot. Pot brownies taste is delightfull, much better than the smoke and most of all brownies do not pollute your lungs as the pot joint does. Here are a few good recipies for pot brownies, including basic pot butter, famous space cakes and some more interesting ideas to try.

Pot butter - basic and cruicial ingredient of any pot brownies

The best pot butter recipie

Pot brownies true story:
Policeman steals evidence, then makes pot cookies, trips and calls 911

The first step in cooking magical cannabis-laced foods is extracting the cannabinoids (THC, CBD, and many many more) from the plant matter, usually in a oil/fat/butter-based solution, since the cannabinoids do not readily dissolve in water. My best FOAF has a method for doing this that he has not seen mention of in this forum. He got it from a little book called _The Art and Science of Cooking with Cannabis_, by Adam Gottlieb, orignally published in 1974. Gottlieb calls the product of the extraction `CANNABUTTER'.

The procedure is actually very simple. He brings a pot of water to a rolling boil, then puts a small amount of butter in the water. Quickly, the butter melts, and mixes in with the water because the whole mixture is at a rolling boil.

Then he puts the grass in and boils it. (Of course, he separates all the seeds first so he can plant them in the nearby park.) Now all the grass is riling around with the water and butter, and get this: The cannabinoids dissolve into the butter, while most of the nasty flavors and gook dissolve into the water. He stirs the stuff regularly. After cooking the grass like this for a while (say, half an hour), his kitchen really smells incriminating. He strains out the spent plant matter, squeezes all the juice out of it, and puts the liquid in the fridge.

A few hours later, the mixture is cool enough that the cannabutter has solidified on the surface. It looks kind of scummy, but its just enchanted butter. He scoops it out and retains it in a bowl or a jar. The grass-nasty water is thrown out.

Although this method takes longer than the usual saute-n-strain method, it has several advantages:

  • As explained above, the nasty shit is separated and removed from the fun shit.
  • You can make stronger cannabutter than by saute-ing, because you can cook more grass in the same amount of butter, due to the extra volume of the water.
  • There is no danger of burning the precious, price-inflated, hard and dangerous to obtain herb, as there is when you saute, because the water keeps the whole mixture at boiling temperature!

The cannabutter can be used just like butter, in brownies, on garlic bread,
or mixed with honey on your finger!

Pot butter comments:

Smells - I've only made cannibutter once, it turned out great, but it definitly had a strong odor when I was cooking it. It almost smells like a mix between really really dank pot and cooking spinach. The following day, the kitchen still wreaked of weed. My advice for those who are worried about smells, is to go outside somewhere and bring a campstove or something. Cooking outside would prevent you from stinking up your house/apartment. If you had a backyard, that would be great, though I'de be careful of nosy neighbors, ect. Maybe cooking at night would be best.

As for butter/food ratio -- When using the cannibutter to bake deserts, ect, try to keep the butter to food ratio as low as possible. Don't make giant cakes, instead make a small batch of brownies. It's better to eat a smaller more powerful brownie -- your body digests it quicker, therfor giving you a stronger high. If you eat a lof of food, the thc is released into your bloodstream at a slower rate, therfor decreasing the intensity of your high.

When I made brownies, I used about a quarter of pot to each stick of butter. This made the butter very potent. As for not straining -- you can do this, but your food/butter will have bits of weed in it...and honestly, the pot doesn't taste very good at all.

Start with a small dose -- Eating pot brownies gives much stronger effect than smoking pot. there really is no set dose, it all depends upon how much pot you used to make the butter, and how much food you've combined the cannibutter with. If you eat too much you may just get too high and want to sleep/pass out. Also try taking a bit of the cannibutter and spreading it ontop of a ritz cracker or something -- this would be a good dose to test out the potency of your butter.
